How long does a spray tan last?

The length of time a spray tan lasts really depends on the person and it varies by shade and skin tone. Lighter shades tend to fade slightly faster, whilst darker shades last the longest- sometimes up to ten days! This is because the active ingredient in spray tanning solution-DHA-is more concentrated in the darker solutions. The more DHA, the longer the color will hold and the darker the tan.

On average, a spray tan lasts about 5 to 7 days and gradually fades as your skin naturally sheds the top layer of dead skin.

Other important factors to consider when wanting to extend the results of your tan include:

Exfoliating everyday at least three days before your tan and moisturize thoroughly. This helps by getting rid of any dead, dry skin and moisturizing so your spray tan can develop evenly and fully.

Wear dark loose clothing to your tanning appointment to avoid excessive rubbing on your skin, which can remove the solution before it has started to develop.

Wait at least 8 hours to shower, however, you can leave the tanning solution on for up to 24 hours. The longer you leave the solution on will maximize the results, allowing the tan to fully develop and extend the life of your tan.
