What is a spray tan?

Updated: Jan 12, 2020

Have you heard of spray tanning or airbrush tans but don't know what its really about? Lets start with the basics of what a sunless tan actually is and how it works!

A spray tan solution is a fine mist sprayed onto your body to give you a bronzed, UV free tan. Spray tans solutions are made up of DHA (Dihydroxyacetone), this interacts with your own skins chemistry to turn it tan. DHA reacts and binds with the amino acids in the dead skin cells on the outermost layer of the skin. Airbrush tans give the illusion of a sun tan and gradually fades over time as your skin naturally exfoliates.

Spray tans do not provide protection from the sun and you should always use a spray tan safe SPF before going out in the sun.

A sunless tan lasts, on average, about 5-7 days and can last up to 10 days depending on your aftercare routine!
